I'm coming off a long dry spell of not reading very much at all -- my schedule hasn't allowed it -- and I'm really eager to go to the bookstore or library and make up for lost time. I've got my eye on Robert Parker's new book High Profile, and Lawrence Block's Lucky at Cards, so I am good on mystery/suspense for the moment.
What can people recommend to me for good new science fiction and fantasy (or even old science fiction and fantasy)?
I am hungry for the written word! Feed me! Feed me!
Thanks!

Hi Kimberley- While "real" science fiction isn't my thing, I love anything by Douglas Adams. He's the only science fiction I read because it's also mixed with wonderful British humor. Not everyone gets Brit humor so if you don't, skip it. If you love Little Britain or Monty Python, try it. I got hooked. Happy reading.
1Terry Brooks' Landover series is pretty cute. The first one is "Magic Kingdom for Sale- Sold!"
Terry Goodkind's first three in his series are good, but my God do they get redundant if you keep going past that.
2The first book is "Wizard's First Rule".
The thing about fantasy writers- if one book does well, they'll write five more and make it a series. Beware getting sucked in- a lot of them are crap past book 2.
3I liked Shards of Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold. Just got done reading The Accidental Time Machine by Joe Haldeman. The humor and science and characters blend perfectly in that one.
